Climate change is now widely recognised as a key risk faced by business. Why is that? What are the expected and potential impacts? What is the scientific consensus that is changing the narrative and business conditions and creating an ever increasing sense that urgent changes must be made to meet the climate change challenge?
HSBC and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) are delighted to invite you to hear from, and join a discussion with, scientists leading the efforts of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which is responsible for assessing, compiling and communicating global scientific expertise on climate change. The Director and Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Observatory will join the discussion of the impacts climate change has on Hong Kong.
Given the importance and urgency of the underlying issues and seniority of the presenters, this is a truly unique opportunity to engage with senior leaders from Business, and Finance as well as experts in the field of sustainability at this exclusive event.
The sessions will cover three IPCC Special Reports:
- Global Warming of 1.5 °C (published October 2018 www.ipcc.ch/sr15/)
- Climate Change and Land. This covers the impact of climate change on desertification, land degradation, sustainable land management and food security, and greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems (published August 2019 www.ipcc.ch/report/srccl/)
- The Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate. This covers the impact of climate change on the world’s oceans and on the Greenland and Antarctic Ice-caps. (September 2019 www.ipcc.ch/report/srocc/)

About IPCC: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the UN body for assessing the science related to climate change. It was set up in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization and United Nations Environment Programme to provide policymakers with regular assessments of the scientific basis of climate change, its impacts and future risks, and options for adaptation and mitigation. This action was endorsed by the UN General Assembly.
