Programme Overview

Hong Kong Green Finance Association (HKGFA) and Hong Kong Financial Services Institute (HKFSI) are pleased to announce the 6th cohort for the Certificate in Green and Sustainable Finance programme.

Through this comprehensive Mandarin course, you can learn about the current green finance landscape and related products, including topics covering relevant standards and certifications, green bonds, the carbon market, carbon trading, carbon taxes, and carbon accounting, as well as carbon neutrality-driven transformation and the relationship between climate risks and economic stability.

Who Should Attend

Professionals who want to understand how the global financial industry is rapidly changing to address the climate crisis and other aspects of sustainability. Executives in finance, sustainability and ESG who want to upskill and build the skillsets essential for career advancement given the trajectory of incorporating ESG into all aspects of business operations and investment decisions.

There are no admission requirements, but we recommend participants to have basic foundational knowledge in sustainability to maximise the benefits of this programme.

 

Programme Benefits

  • This programme is one of the Eligible Programmes under the Pilot Green and Sustainable Finance Capacity Building Support Scheme (Programme Identification Code: GTP-837221; Effective date under the Scheme*: 2022/12/13). The Scheme provides training subsidies to Hong Kong residents who are market practitioners and prospective practitioners of green and sustainable finance, namely students and graduates in relevant disciplines. After completing Eligible Programmes, applicants can apply for a subsidy of up to 80% of the relevant fees (full-time student applicants can apply for a subsidy of up to 100% of the relevant fees), subject to a ceiling of $10,000. The reimbursement application should be submitted via the application portal of the Scheme within 3 months from the date of completion of the Eligible Programme. *The Pilot Green and Sustainable Finance Capacity Building Support Scheme only accepts reimbursement applications in relation to an Eligible Programme with an enrolment date that is on or after the effective date of such Programme.

  • Students completing the course are eligible to apply for Module 1 and Module 2 exemptions of the HKMA Enhanced Competency Framework Accreditation on GSF Core Level Training Programme.
  • HKICPA CPAs/ CFA charterholders or SFC licensed persons may be able to claim CPD hours/PL Credits/CPT hours, based on the member guidelines.

 

How To Get Certified

In groups of 4-5, participants will be required to complete an end-of-programme group presentation on a sustainable finance topic during the last day of the programme and actively participate throughout the programme.

The assessments will be completed in-person with assessors from HKGFA and HKFSI. Upon achieving 70% overall attendance and completing the group presentation, participants will receive a physical Certificate of Completion jointly issued by HKGFA and HKFSI .

A written proof of attendance will be distributed to participants upon completion of programme.

Learning Content

Learning Aims and Objectives

The programme will provide a comprehensive overview of sustainable finance and carbon neutrality in Asia, including the regulatory landscape, real-economy transition pathways, sustainable investments, sustainable finance products, climate risk management, and carbon finance to achieve carbon neutrality.

During the programme, participants will:

  • Understand the global framework for sustainable and green finance, from taxonomies to standards and principles, and how they are being implemented at the practitioner level
  • Examine local ESG standards, frameworks and reporting with a focus on stakeholder engagement and materiality assessment
  • Familiarize themselves with the fundamentals of sustainable finance products (green bonds, green loans, sustainability linked loans, transition bonds, emerging new sustainable products) and practical applications for issuers and financial
    intermediaries
  • Explore how ESG can be adopted by asset managers/owners and the common methods of ESG integration and investing examples
  • Understand the fundamentals of integrating ESG in risk management including the use of climate data tools in quantifying climate risk for fixed assets
  • Understand the carbon markets, carbon management and latest developments of the voluntary carbon markets in Asia

Programme Fees*

Special rate for HKGFA Members (eligible to all member firm employees)/ HKFSI members and alumni: HKD 13,500

Standard rate: HKD 15,000

*Reimbursable fees under the Pilot Green and Sustainable Finance Capacity Building Support Scheme; Reimbursement amount is dependent on the actual amount incurred by the programme participant and the applicable percentage of reimbursement based on that participant’s applicant category.
