The Common Ground Taxonomy (CGT) is a milestone work resulting from an in-depth comparison exercise that puts forward areas of commonality and differences between the EU and China’s green taxonomies. Join us in the HKGFA Training Series – Advancing the Adoption of Common Ground Taxonomy | GBA-GFA Report Launch on 30 June (Thur) 4 pm – 5 pm HKT to explore the way forward of the Common Ground Taxonomy.

Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Green Finance Alliance and Hong Kong Green Finance Association will also launch the report  – Hong Kong Common Ground Taxonomy: The opportunities presented by a CGT-based taxonomy for Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area in collaboration with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Guangdong Green Finance Committee. The report aims to examine the proposal to adopt the Common Ground Taxonomy in HKSAR and seeks to provide a series of recommendations to help financial regulators with

<Background>

The International Platform on Sustainable Finance (IPSF) has published the second version of the CGT report in June 2022, which now includes 72 climate mitigation activities that are recognized by both the EU Sustainable Finance Taxonomy and China’s Greed Bond Endorsed Project Catalogue.

As announced by the Green and Sustainable Finance Cross-Agency Steering Group (Steering Group) in December 2021, the Steering Group will, with the aim of aligning with the CGT, explore developing a green classification framework for adoption in the local market which facilitates easy navigation among the CGT, China and the EU’s taxonomies. The work will be guided by the principles of interoperability, comparability and inclusiveness, taking into account other definitions of green, transitional activities, and local considerations.

Hong Kong Common Ground Taxonomy: The opportunities presented by a CGT-based taxonomy for Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area is funded by the Public Policy Research Funding Scheme / Strategic Public Policy Research Funding Scheme from the Policy Innovation and Co-ordination Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
