The panellists highlighted the following trends and market developments:
- The growing awareness in the market on the need for transition plans, and to access transition finance. There is still more work to be done on capacity building, to facilitate the understanding of what constitutes as a credible plan, measuring climate targets set, and enable companies, especially those in hard-to-abate sectors to decarbonise.
- There is a need to further improve the current data collection approach, given the importance of the quality, accessibility, transparency, and relevance of data required for companies to access transition finance effectively and mitigate transition-washing risks.
- Interoperability is key to catalysing transition processes worldwide – By publishing comparable taxonomies, frameworks, and standards, entities will be able to operate beyond their local jurisdictions to scale transition finance.
- A holistic approach is required to enable the development of robust and time-bound transition plans that align with the net-zero pathways as it will encourage multi-stakeholder engagement and equip them with the tools and guidance necessary to ensure a smooth transition.
