The following key actions were highlighted to accelerate meaningful decarbonisation progress:
- Credible transition plans are not a nice-to-have but a must-have: They ensure preparedness and readiness of financial institutions, investors, and corporates to manage climate-related risks, access the transition financing necessary, and track progress.
- Data drives insights, actions, and accountability: Identify the emission hotspots and focus on small but significant successes and pilot approaches to reduce emissions whilst proactively engaging with stakeholders and the supply chain.
- Start climate-related disclosure now: In Hong Kong, the phased adoption of ISSB standards began in January 2025 for listed companies, and the full adoption is anticipated by 2028 for large publicly accountable entities. Early adopters can utilise data to enhance their business strategies and mitigate climate-related risks.
- Adopt forward-looking metrics, disclosure practices, and scenario analysis to better manage risks and seize the opportunity. Direction of travel is important!
- Whole-industry approach and collaboration across the supply chain are essential to accelerate decarbonisation, especially for hard-to-abate sectors. HKGFA will contribute to strive and serve as a platform for members to engage and drive positive impact with a collective industry voice.
