David Liao is Head of Global Banking for Asia-Pacific. Mr. Liao is responsible for directly managing the overall relationships of our Global Banking and Markets clients across sectors, overseeing our regional product teams, as well as first line risk management, specifically credit, reputational and financial crime risk. He has been a Group General Manager of the HSBC Group since September 2016.

Before being appointed as Head of Global Banking for Asia-Pacific, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bank (China) Company Limited (HSBC China) and an Executive Director of the Board of HSBC China. Mr. Liao joined HSBC in 1997, responsible for local currency fixed income business in Greater China and Singapore.

Mr Liao was appointed Treasurer and Head of Global Markets for HSBC in China in 2005. He became Head of Global Banking and Markets at HSBC China in December 2013. Mr Liao became Executive Vice President of HSBC China in March 2014. He assumed the role as President and Chief Executive Officer of HSBC China in April 2015.

Mr Liao is a non-executive director of Bank of Communications Co., Ltd. He is also a Supervisor of HSBC Jintrust Fund Management Company Limited. He is a member of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the 13th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), an Advisor of International Business Leaders’ Advisory Council for the Governor of Hubei and an International Advisor of Wuhan Municipal People’s Government.
