Dr. Ma serves as the Chairman of the Green Finance Committee of the China Society for Finance and Banking. He also holds the positions of Chairman and President of the Hong Kong Green Finance Association, as well as President of the Institute of Finance and Sustainability. Furthermore, Dr. Ma serves as the Co-Chair of the Steering Committee of the Green Investment Principles for the Belt & Road, and as Co-Chair of the IPSF Working Group of Taxonomy.
In the past, Dr. Ma held notable positions such as the former Co-Chair of the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group, Member of the Monetary Committee of the People’s Bank of China from 2018 to 2020, Chief Economist at the PBOC, and Director of the Center for Finance and Development at PBC School of Tsinghua University. He also had 13 years of experience at Deutsche Bank, where he held the roles of Managing Director, Chief Economist, and Investment Strategist for Greater China. Additionally, he worked as a senior economist and economist at the World Bank and the IMF from 1992 to 2000.
Dr. Ma is renowned as a leading advocate and practitioner of green and sustainable finance in China and globally. He played a leading role in the development of China’s green finance guidelines and green bond standards, along with contributing to various international sustainable finance standards and guidance. He received numerous awards for his achievements in promoting green finance, ESG and sustainability.
