Elaine Wu, Managing Director, is the APAC Head of Sustainable Investment Research at BlackRock Investment Institute. Her team oversees sustainability research for the region and publishes research for internal and external investors. She has more than 14 years of experience in equity research spanning across Asia power, gas and water utilities, as well as renewable and nuclear power. Most recently, she was the Head of Asia ex-Japan ESG and Utilities Equity Research at J.P. Morgan and was the first to spearhead Asia ESG research for the firm. Prior to that, Elaine worked at Nomura and Lehman Brothers.

Elaine’s research has been recognized by several industry surveys. She achieved First Place ESG Analyst ranking in the Institutional Investor All-Asia Research Poll (2021 & 2022). Her team ranked first in ESG Research and third in Power Research of that survey. Elaine has also been recognized in rankings from Greenwich and Thomson Reuters Asia Analyst Awards. Elaine authored “Financing Mechanisms for Water Treatment Projects in China,” a chapter within Financing Investment in Water Security (Elsevier, 2022). She was a journalist in the U.S. and Hong Kong before joining the financial industry. Elaine holds double MBA degrees from The University of Texas at Austin and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
