Mr Alexander Chan, Sustainability-related Disclosures, Policy & Standards Working Group Co-chair, HKGFA; Head of ESG Client Strategies, Invesco, spoke at the HKGCC Seminar and Panel Discussion on “Decarbonising Hong Kong 2050: Navigating Climate-related Disclosures” on 17 October 2023.

With the new regulatory proposals on climate-related disclosure, the panel discussion focused on the challenges, best practices, as well as support measures for corporates and SMEs to accelerate their ESG transition.

Alex emphasized that, from an investment perspective, businesses should look at progress rather than perfection in ESG reporting which is not a checklist exercise but rather an opportunity to drive insights from credible data to set interim and long-term corporate strategies so that they can achieve targets over time. He also recommended taking a future thinking approach coupled with progress monitoring.

Thank you to HKGCC for inviting HKGFA to take part in this timely panel moderated by Dr Calvin Kwan from Link REIT and joined by Ms Kelly Lee from HKEX and Mr Pat Woo from KPMG China. HKGFA will continue its efforts in capacity building and promoting more exchange and collaboration between green finance professionals, corporates and SMEs.
