HKGFA Biodiversity Training Series Session 3: “Biodiversity-related Reporting, Target-Setting Frameworks & Taxonomies” was well-received by over 200 attendees on 11 April 2024.
Sincere thanks to our speakers, Ms. Marine de Bazelaire, Group Advisor on Natural Capital | Global Sustainability, HSBC Holdings plc; Ms. Gilly Hutchinson, Solicitor, Head of ESG Regional Development (Asia), Linklaters; Ms. Romie Goedicke, Co-Head Nature, UNEP FI for their sharing and updates on reporting, target-setting frameworks and taxonomies globally.
Key takeaways
- The global landscape on environmental and nature-related disclosures has evolved rapidly in the past few years, specifically with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and the TNFD. The GBF indicates goals and targets required to halt and reverse nature loss while TNFD acts as a risk assessment and disclosure framework that covers different aspects of nature.
- The recent report ‘Accountability for Nature: Comparison of Nature-related Assessment and Disclosure Frameworks and Standards’ co-published by the United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) and the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) pointed out that the reviewed standards, frameworks and systems for assessment and disclosure on nature-related issues share a considerable level of alignment in key concepts and methodological approaches.
- To achieve better biodiversity integrations holistically and collectively, the speakers encouraged further development in ensuring sufficient high-quality data, exploring actions that tackle both climate change and nature-related issues to avoid potential trade-offs between the two factors and improve collaborations between the public and private sectors.
