Hong Kong Green Finance Association (HKGFA) was delighted to be part of Hong Kong Green Week 2026 with our flagship Annual Forum and followed with a number ofco-hosted events during the week designed to drive actionable changes across Asia’s sustainable finance ecosystem.
- Blended Finance in Action: Scaling Climate Adaptation & Resilience (8 September)
Co-hosted with Convergence Blended Finance and Sustainable Finance Initiative, the session convened over 80 participants from commercial banks, MDBs, asset managers, corporates, philanthropists, family offices, project developers, and ecosystem service providers to explore blended finance solutions to scale investment in climate adaptation and resilience across Asia. Mekong Capital and responsibAbility Investments AG shared practical insights on the design of their blended finance vehicles, alongside the rationale for regional investments in climate-resilient infrastructure, and climate adaptation and resilient projects. The workshop discussion focused on ways to make climate projects bankable, such as using financial guarantees to absorb local currency risks to crowd in commercial banks, building a shared database of pipeline projects to expedite project reviews, and using local pilot projects, such as coastal and wetland restoration in the Northern Metropolis to test risk-sharing mechanisms that can be replicated regionally.
- ReThink HK (10–11 September)
HKGFA curated and moderated three panels Rethink 2026.
- [Covering Your Assets: Climate risks] Panellists examined how physical climate impacts, such as acute heat stress and chronic water risk, are being addressed and managed by asset owners, asset managers and insurance. The discussion focused on measuring adaptation and resilience investments to quantify financial impact, disclosing transparent risk data to investors, and bringing insurers directly into boardrooms to proactively maintain asset insurability.
- [Financing Nature and Resilience: How to Structure Bankable Deals] Speakers shared real case studies on how nature and climate resilience transactions are structured in Asia. For nature-based reforestation in Cambodia, the discussion highlighted how carbon credits remain the primary revenue stream that makes these deals bankable for institutional capital. Key friction points include long payback periods, risk-pricing data gaps, and complex stakeholder dynamics. Overcoming these challenges will require government-backed “nature connectors”, localised standards (e.g., FSC and Fairtrade), and blended concessional funding to make projects investment-ready.
- [Beyond Credible Transition Planning to Transactions: Executing Transition Finance in the Real Economy] Panellists shared practical perspectives on how transition plans are used to unlock transition finance; from a lender, asset owner, asset manager, and corporate viewpoints. The discussion underscored the need for aligned incentives, capital expenditure, robust data and reporting, and active stewardship across the value chain, and how Hong Kong’s supportive regulatory and policy environment provides a strong foundation for mobilising transition finance
3. CASI Sustainability Forum Satellite Event (11 September)
Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI), HKGFA, and HKU Sustainability Society jointly organised a student-oriented satellite event under the CASI Sustainability Forum, “Sustainable Development in Action – Harnessing AI, Climate Tech & Sustainable Finance Across Industries”. The session welcomed over 100 young professionals and university students to explore the practical realities and emerging career opportunities in sustainable finance, green tech, and AI.
A huge thank you to all our co-hosts, speakers, and participants for making these sessions so impactful. We look forward to continuing these collaborations and turning these insights into real-world momentum across the region.
