HKGFA representatives engaged in a tripartite meeting with the Authority  of Qianhai and BEAM Society Limited on 15 May 2026 to explore cross-border green financing opportunities between Hong Kong and Qianhai.

During the discussion, HKGFA Working Group Co-Chairs Ms. Alice Suen (HSBC), Mrs Florence Yip (Eternal Capital), Ms Grace Kwok (Allied Sustainability and Environmental Consultants Group Limited), Ir Dr Bruce Chong (Arup), together with HKGFA Secretariat representatives Mr Tsun Chen and Ms Phoebe Liu, highlighted Hong Kong’s unique role as an international financial centre and “super connector” and “super value-adder” in supporting Chinese Mainland enterprises to access global capital markets.

Key observations and recommendations included:

• Hong Kong has been Asia’s leading hub for green and sustainable bond issuance for eight consecutive years, reinforcing its position in facilitating international transition finance.
• Potential collaboration between Qianhai and Hong Kong could be explored in green building and infrastructure, leveraging Qianhai’s certification capabilities alongside Hong Kong’s strengths in international finance and professional services.
• Greater harmonisation of standards is essential to deepen cross-border collaboration, including alignment in disclosure frameworks, green building standards, and infrastructure project requirements.
• The development of a cross-border green financing guideline or roadmap could support Chinese Mainland corporates in enhancing project bankability and navigating international financing expectations.
• Significant opportunities exist in green infrastructure financing, complementing ongoing efforts in SME financing.

Looking ahead, as the incoming Chair of the Greater Bay Area Green Finance Alliance (GBA-GFA), HKGFA will continue to strengthen collaboration with GBA cities and our members, support ecosystem-wide transition, and further reinforce Hong Kong’s role as a leading sustainable finance hub.
