HKGFA’s “What’s Next for Hong Kong’s Carbon Market?” Panel Discussion and Networking Event


On 6 January 2023 (Friday), over 450 members and industry experts participated in the hybrid-structured HKGFA’s “What’s Next for Hong Kong’s Carbon Market?” panel discussion and networking event, with a focus on transforming Hong Kong into a global, high-quality voluntary carbon market.


We are pleased to have Mr. Ben McQuhae (Founder, Ben McQuhae & Co; Vice President and Special Advisor to the Chairman, HKGFA), Ms. Tracy Wong Harris (Managing Director, Head of Sustainable Finance, Asia, Standard Chartered; Vice President and Deputy Secretary General, HKGFA), Ms. Elaine Ng (Associate Director, International Affairs & Sustainable Finance, Securities and Futures Commission), and Mr. Edward Lau (Chief Financial Officer, New World Development) share their perspectives on the latest developments and opportunities in the Hong Kong’s carbon markets, and the role that financial institutions, corporate regulators and international standards play in facilitating a liquid, well-functioning carbon market.


In the events’ closing remarks, Dr. Ma Jun (Chairman and President, HKGFA) highlighted the carbon finance opportunities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), the necessity for interoperable standards, and importance of an integrated ecosystem for the carbon market to advance in the Mainland China and Hong Kong.
