What does a credible transition plan look like?

“A credible transition plan is a time-bound action plan that clearly outlines how you will pivot existing assets, operations, and the entire business model towards a trajectory that aligns with most ambitious climate target.” – CDP

Why is transition planning important?

Climate change poses significant systemic risks that require considerable financial investments for effective mitigation. However, in addressing these risks, the net-zero transition also creates substantial opportunities for investment that can drive economic growth and innovation.

Transition plans are important as it enables organisations to navigate regulations and policies, enhance accountability and transition, and attracts investors and stakeholder support.

Real-economy companies, through their transition plans, can identify relevant risks, specific opportunities, and capex needs to pinpoint areas for the financing and investment required. Financial institutions can then enable the net-zero transition by providing the financing necessary to capitalise on opportunities identified by the real-economy and/or national transition plans.
